After more than a year, Marc Marquez returns to savor a pole position. The Cabroncito tames the rainy conditions in Jerez de la Frontera in the Spanish GP and he will start in front of everyone: a fantastic time of 1’46″774 on a wet track. This is his 93rd career pole, the first since Algarve 2023. Bezzecchi will start next to him, Bagnaia was unable to limit the damage and will start from seventh place.
Since Q1, qualifying which was affected by the rain falling on the Jerez de la Frontera circuit. Initially Binder takes command, then Oliveira. In the last few minutes the intensity of the rain decreases, therefore the times improve and Franco Morbidelli takes the lead with a time of 1’47″887 which is worth access to Q2 with 62 thousandths of a second over Binder. Elimination for Savadori and Marini, who will start in fifth-last and fourth-last position respectively.
In the Q2 The track conditions further improve, the sun comes out, the asphalt heats up and partly dries out. Marc Marquez, a master in these conditions, immediately took command of the operations with a time of 1’48″016. Everyone changes tires after the first run and Marquez relaunches himself with another super time: 1’46″774 which marks the return to pole position after over a year. Fantastic Marco Bezzecchi who set a great time in the final minutes which earned him second place, 271 thousandths behind Marquez, with Jorge Martin closing the front row at six tenths of a second.
Seventh position for Pecco Bagnaia, penalized by conditions certainly not particularly similar to him: more than a second behind Marquez (1″189), unable to improve in the final. The Ducati rider places just ahead of Franco Morbidelli who finishes eighth, while Fabio Di Giannantonio will start fifth and Enea Bastianini ninth.
