If Roma or Atalanta won the Europa League…
Then the problem would arise just in case Rome or Atalanta should they win the Europa League – which we frankly hope for. As we well know, whoever lifts that trophy has right to access the Champions League and with the expansion to five teams for the Italians, at that point there could become six candidates for the prestigious continental event. In fact it’s exactly like this: 4 places from the championship, 1 for the Europa League holders and 1 thanks to the UEFA ranking.
Lazio and Napoli also hope so
This aspect makes the season finale even more electrifying. Not only of the Giallorossi and Nerazzurri but also of all those teams who find themselves a little further back in the standings and who can hope again. There Lazio, for example, who by beating Verona would find themselves sixth in the standings and with a calendar that is anything but prohibitive in these last rounds. But, why not, also the Naples if he raises his head after a few days spent observing. Or the Florentine which still has the Conference League standing but would also come back into play via the championship. Naturally, these would require cheering for their compatriots in the Europa League.
The calculations: even 10 teams in Europe are possible
At this point, however, we need to understand how the distribution of Italian women in Europe would take place. There are two possible divisions. The first: with the 6th in the Champions League we would only bring one to the Europa League and another to the Conference. The second: with 5 in the Champions League the division would remain 5+2+1. The total is therefore always 8 teams. It would reach 10 in the event of a double triumph in the Conference or Europa League or “only” 9 if one of the two trophies were brought home with the respective champion clubs finishing eighth or lower.
