Valentino Rossi and Marc Marquez have a truly unique history of tensions and differences behind them, even if things could change.

The tough clash between Valentino Rossi and Marc Marquez, with the peak reached in the finale of the 2015 MotoGP world championship, was so heated that it is still remembered today by enthusiasts and professionals, and probably not only by them.

A rivalry that has definitely broken down the door of sportsmanship and fair play, even though almost nine years have passed since that precise moment. However, also for reasons unrelated to the dualism between the two, even today we continue to talk about the numbers 46 and 93.

The reason is intertwined with statistics and numbers, which for both are indeed extraordinary. Rossi, with 9 world titles, has only one more than Marquez, not counting victories, pole positions and so on. That said, when will the two finally make peace? It’s difficult to say, although things could actually change in the future.

MotoGP, Valentino Rossi and Marc Marquez: tensions behind? The opinion

As we have already said, Valentino Rossi and Marc Marquez have a truly tense and complex past behind them, even if not everyone is convinced that things will always be this way. We are referring to Marco Melandri, who challenged the Doctor on the track in MotoGP. The former driver, who ended his career on the track in 2019, spoke about this burning topic to the microphones of MotoSan. Melandri believes that “It could happen that the two make peace, for sure”.

What led the 2005 MotoGP world vice-champion to believe in this is that – following his statements on the matter – when a rider stops competing it is decidedly easier to put an end to what happened on the track, because when two drivers race for the same goal it is decidedly more complex to behave differently. Melandri continued by saying: “If you are a champion you only have to think about yourself”.

This rule is broken from the moment of withdrawal onwards. In fact, after the competition, for the former MotoGP and SBK rider you start to enjoy life more and laugh and smile even at what previously only made you angry. The Italian isn’t entirely wrong, even if we must remember that between the two champions of the world championship of the last twenty years there hasn’t been a simple competitive tension, but a truly explosive rivalry. We’ll see if time can heal such a relationship too.
