«The national government is going in the opposite direction with respect to the necessary policies on ecological transition, work, tourism and social protection. But it is from the territories that the signal of a policy capable of really changing things can come.” This is how Chiara Appendino, vice-president of the 5 Star Movement and former mayor of Turin, opened her tour of Umbria in San Gemini on Wednesday afternoon. To the electoral committee of the ‘Unity and Responsibility for San Gemini’ list, Chiara Appendino brought her administrative experience as mayor of Turin: «There are no perfect recipes, if citizens are fed up we need to demonstrate that things can change. The national government is going in the opposite direction to the ecological transition, social protection and tourism. The local vote is very important, an alternative project can start from the territory. When we talk about the circular economy, about a company like Sangemini, about protecting the territory, we need to give the signal that there are people who don’t wash their hands of it. It can be a cycle path, a green space, something that affects everyday life. It’s not true that things can’t change. Here there are credible and young people who work hard. When I see young people getting involved with enthusiasm and healthy indignation, a project can become credible.” Giuseppe Bracco, entrepreneur born in 1963, general director of Bit srl and active in sports associations, is the candidate for mayor of the coalition of civic and progressive people: «For me, doing politics is new, I accepted because I care a lot about San Gemini and I want to do something to contribute to the relaunch of our territory. It is no coincidence that we have taken the crown cap of the water bottle as a symbol. A sign that we need to start again from history, from the origins. People are tired, they want to be listened to.” Also present at the meeting was Diego Diomedi, 25 years old, graduated in cultural sciences and gastronomy policies from the University for Foreigners of Perugia and with a master’s degree in food history from the University of Bologna: «In these five years of administration of the centre-right, no response has been received regarding the Sangemini crisis, responses which have not even come from the Region. Workers are not a burden, they must be a source of pride and pride. In Sangemini there is no point of sale, you can’t buy water from our company, I had to go to Terni to buy it. We must defend the water valley.”
