The 2020 world champion, Joan Mir, has become the point standard bearer of the HRC team. Here is all the info on the Majorcan centaur.
Joan Mir, like many of her colleagues, started racing minibikes at the age of 10. He took part in several events on the island of Palma de Mallorca, achieving success in minibikes, minitards and the Bankia Cup. At 16 he took part in the Red Bull Rookies Cup, finishing ninth and second in 2014. The following year he participated in the FIM CEV Moto3, finishing fourth.
He made his debut in the MotoGP world championship in 2015, thanks to Hiroki Ono’s injury on the Leopard Racing team’s Honda NSF250R. In 2016 he became the owner driving a KTM RC 250 GP. The teammates were Fabio Quartararo and Andrea Locatelli.
He won in Austria after taking pole position. He finished the season in fifth place with 144 points. In 2017 he remained in the same team. The championship began with two triumphs in the Qatar and Argentine GPs. On 22 October 2017 on the Phillip Island circuit he became champion with a clear success and with two races to spare.
The arrival in Moto2, driving the Kalex of the Marc VDS Racing team, with teammate Alex Marquez, he had a negative year. The Spanish centaur didn’t even find a success, but was immediately attracted by the MotoGP sirens.
Suzuki offered him the saddle and Mir responded with an average season in the first year and with the title in 2020. It was an anomalous season characterized by the injury of Marc Marquez who had dominated the scene in the previous four years.
Mir took advantage of the Honda champion’s fall to fight for the crown against Franco Morbidelli. In the end he prevailed, thanks to a single success in the European Grand Prix in Valencia, his first in MotoGP. He became MotoGP world champion in his second year in the top category with just 171 points.

His father had a skate and surfboard shop in Palma, and Ana Mayrata, is an interior designer. Her parents divorced. Joan Mir has two brothers, Mauro, born from another relationship with her mother, and Fiona, born from another relationship with her father. Joan Mir and Alejandra Lopez Garro became parents after getting married.

Mir is 181 cm tall and weighs 69 kg. His racing number is 36. He races on an RC213V, having taken command of the HRC after Marc Marquez’s retirement. His teammate, in 2024, is Valentino Rossi’s younger brother, Luca Marini.
The champion’s biography
If two handlers like Marc Marquez and Joan Mir have not managed to revive Honda’s fortunes, there is no reason to remain calm around the Tokyo headquarters. The house of the golden wing, in addition to an excellent salary, did not guarantee anything positive in technical terms to the former Suzuki. On only one occasion Mir has entered the top 10 since he arrived in HRC.
After injuries and misses, Mir finished fifth at last year’s Indian GP. In 2024 he didn’t find the right feeling on the new RC213V. In his career, the Majorcan has collected 33 podiums, 12 victories and 2 pole positions.
