Nadal confirms he will play doubles with Alcaraz at the Games “if nothing strange happens”
Good news for Spanish tennis from the Mutua Madrid Open. The dream of an entire country to see the two phenomena together in the last Mallorcan Olympics is closer to becoming reality.
After Carlos Alcaraz told Marca he didn’t dare ask him, Rafa Nadal responded via TikTok: “You don’t have to ask me anything, if there’s nothing strange we’ll play together. It’s something that excites me so much and if I’m not mistaken it will be the same for him too“. The Spaniard, who faces the duel against De Minaur in Madrid with the aim of continuing to improve after injuries, has two Olympic gold medals to his credit: Beijing 2008 as an individual and Rio 2016 in doubles alongside Marc Lopez.
Preparation
Nadal also added that he would like to play with Alcaraz before the French Olympic event.“It would be nice to be able to play a tournament before the Games to prepare ourselves, to understand each other, an opportunity to make a good pair and aspire to good things. It would be good for both of us and for the Spanish team. We’ll see how the situation evolves. I hope I’m capable of being a good partner for him and I’m sure he will be for me. We’ll see where we can get to,” he concluded.
