The Maria Pia rugby field in Alghero is preparing to welcome, on Saturday 27 April 2024, the third edition of the “Autism goes to Meta” event. From 10:00 to 17:00, the spirit of rugby merges with the energy of solidarity to create an unforgettable day. Founder and soul of the event, Ogert Paco, former rugby player and father of Ruben, a 10-year-old autistic boy, who with dedication and love transformed a personal dream into a collective awareness movement.
The event, chaired by Doriana Caria of the “My Special Friend” association, uses a variety of activities designed to encourage integration and interaction. Presented by Romano Marcias, the event will begin with the reception of the sports associations at 9:00 in the morning followed by activities such as the opening of the park with various sports disciplines (rugby, football, baseball, basketball, taekwondo, judo), the baptism of the saddle with the Il Grifone di Guillot riding school, and the exciting “Pompiereopoli” route organized by the Fire Brigade.
The presence of the Fanfare of the 3rd Bersaglieri Regiment and the performance of Kya Carboni will be moments of artistic sharing, while the recreational-educational path of “Pompiereopoli” will offer children the opportunity to learn by playing.
The program is also enriched by the interventions of the RDR Sardegna Rainbow Radio and the students of the “Maria Carta” middle school who will propose singing in Augmentative Alternative Communication (CAA) and the singing of the pupils of the 5th B of the Sacred Heart elementary school in of Italian signs (LIS). The baby dance organized by the ASD Ichnu and activities with Eleonora Cattogno from Giochedù and the educational psychologist Maria Giovanna Monte. The highlight of the day will be with the opening of the Information Desk of the LIBERLY Center and the participation of the Child Neuropsychiatrist Doctor Giorgio Gaspa.
Cultural and educational activities will intertwine, giving life to a rich and varied social fabric, where inclusion manifests itself in every smile, in every dance step, in every musical note.
“Our initiative was created to raise awareness about inclusion and autism, but for families with autistic children, every day is like April 2nd, World Autism Day. These children will grow up, and we must actively integrate them into the social fabric of our society. Sport represents a powerful tool in this journey,” says President Doriana Caria. The event is, therefore, a testimony of how sport and culture can embrace diversity and transform it into strength. “Autism goes to Meta” is not only an event for the community of Alghero but a hymn to humanity and an invitation to recognise, celebrate and support the unique beauty of each individual.
