The Bersaglieri Sanniti come close to reaching the top step in the ninth stage of the 2023/24 Italian touch championship, placing themselves in second place behind L’Aquila touch, winners of the Lazio tournament.
Six teams at the starting line who faced each other in an exciting round-robin where skill and physical resistance made the difference. The Bersaglieri’s journey began very well with clear victories over Terni and Frascati. A very tight draw with the Toccati della Capitolina propels the Sanniti to the match with L’Aquila which is worth the final victory. The Bersaglieri Checs started off well and took the lead at 2 to 1 and then gave in to the vehement return of the L’Aquila team who prevailed 6 to 2. The tournament ended with a victory over Respectful Barbarians Campobasso which established second place for the Bersaglieri of San Giorgio del Sannio.
“It was a challenging tournament which allowed us to compete against the best teams in the central south. A few too many injuries affected our performance a bit in some key matches which could have given us some more satisfaction. However, we are satisfied with second place which consolidates us in the upper part of the final ranking – stated mister Fabio Santucci”.
Stefano Varricchio, one of the veterans of the Samnite team, is also of the same opinion: “It was a tournament that put us to the test from a physical point of view with very intense competitions. We gave our all and second place gratifies us for what we did on the pitch. All the teams are progressively improving from a technical point of view and this pushes us to intensify our commitment to keep up with the others.”
