The Palatharros is closing as a precaution, because the large wooden window on the facade has shown signs of collapse. The municipal sports facility, managed by Pallavolo Ariete, will not be accessible for a few weeks. “We hope to be able to carry out the work to replace the large window and hand the sports hall back to Ariete within 15 days,” declared Sports councilor Antonio Franceschi.
This morning the Municipality’s technical office and a specialized company intervened and it was decided to close the structure as a precaution. The external area has been cordoned off.
“The large window could fall at any moment, outside or inside the sports hall. The closure of the building”, explained Franceschi, “puts us in great difficulty. Aries is in the midst of sporting activity and numerous teams usually train at Palatharros. We will ask the Province to make the gyms of the schools available to society.”
Palatharros should have hosted the final of the regional Under 17 men’s volleyball championship on Wednesday 1 May. But it won’t be possible. “We have already notified Fipav”, added the Sports councilor, “unfortunately this event will have to change venue and will not be played in Oristano”.
The works will consist of dismantling the old window and installing a new frame. “A company suitable for this job has probably already been found. The wooden window”, concluded Franceschi, “has always caused problems, also due to the reflections of sunlight. It will be done again, perhaps in a different way.”
