The march of Valentina Gottardi and Marta Menegatti does not stop as they achieve direct access to the quarter-finals of the Elite 16 of Tepic in Mexico. The blue couple closes the preliminary round with a trio of victories thanks to 2-0 success over the Spanish Liliana/Paula. The match between the Italians and the Iberians was very tough right from the start. Menegatti/Gottardi took the lead 16-13 but were caught at 16-16. We play point to point: the Italians see a set ball cancelled, they cancel one to the Spanish and then on the third attempt they close 24-22.
In the second set Liliana/Paula made a rocket start (4-8), then the blue broke for 12-9. The swing continues with the 5-0 for the Iberians who fly to 13-15. the Italians don’t give up and they come back ahead at 18-17 and in the final they manage to get the better of 21-19 maintaining first place in the group.
However, the race of Alex Ranghieri and Adrian Carambula stops as they fail to overcome the obstacle of the group and finish in 13th place, however, gaining important points in the Olympic qualification key. The blue pair opposite the Poles Bryl/Losiaklost, not without some regrets, a very tight first set in which the Italians found themselves ahead 18-16, then joined by their rivals on the 19 all. Three set balls for Ranghieri/Carambula who were unable to close, while the Poles managed to get the better of the score of 26-24.
