The championship is not over yet, in fact it remains a very important event to pursue qualification for the playoffs. But in the meantime at Lupebasket we are already starting to look to the future, and we are doing so in the name of continuity: the company is in fact happy to announce that an agreement has been reached for the extension of the contract with the first team coach Giuseppe Square. The coach from Lucca, who arrived in San Martino di Lupari a year ago, has renewed for two seasons, and will therefore remain at the helm of Alama until at least 2026.
«As I have already said on other occasions, at San Martino I felt very comfortable in every sense – explains the yellow and black coach – First of all with the people: from the president, to the club, to all those who collaborate. For me it was a natural choice to extend, and I am pleased that the president proposed it to me, especially for a two-year duration. The fact that it arrives at a less than positive moment in the season makes me even more pleased, because it means that the estimate is independent of the results, which in this second part of the season obviously didn’t satisfy me either. But there is the idea of building something lasting.”
With salvation already in their pocket, on Saturday evening the Lupe will play against Sassari – in a stadium that promises to be already sold out – their chances of qualifying for the Scudetto playoffs: «I think that in the first part of the season we did very well, demonstrating great identity, which unfortunately was a bit lost in the second part, even if we have some mitigating factors. But in this sense I feel a bit indebted to the club and the fans for the results we didn’t achieve in the second half of the season. Therefore, doing well in this championship finale, and planning a more continuous season for next year, is a great incentive for me in view of the future.” In between for the Lupe coach there will also be the prestigious commitment to the European Championship in Lithuania with the Under 20 national team, of which he became head coach last December.
These are the words of president Vittorio Giuriati: «I realize that it may seem paradoxical that such an announcement arrives at what is the moment of maximum difficulty of the season from a results point of view. But in reality it shows even more how much we believe in Giuseppe, both as a coach and as a person. After a year together we are increasingly convinced that he is the right man for San Martino. We are talking about an intelligent, balanced coach, a trainer who knows how to teach basketball to the younger ones. We are aware that we are in good hands, and very happy to continue together with him.”
