The best Under 23 cyclists of world cycling will battle from 9 to 16 June on the occasion of the Giro Next Gen 2024.

The individual time trial in Aosta will inaugurate the Corsa Rosa dedicated to the younger generations. The arrival is set in Forlimpopoli (Fc) after eight stages, 986 km and three uphill finishes: Pian della Mussa, Fosse and Zocca.

The Giro Next Gen, born in 1970 as the Giro d’Italia reserved for the amateur category, is the most important international event for Under 23 cyclists together with the Tour de L’Avenir (France).
Among the Italian champions who have established themselves we find Francesco Moser (1971), Giovanni Battaglin (1972), Marco Pantani (1992) e Gilberto Simoni (1993) while among the foreigners the names of Piotr Ugrumov (1984), Thomas Pidcock (2020) and Juan Ayuso (2021) stand out.

Like last year, the stage race will be organized by RCS Sports on behalf of the Italian Cycling Federation (FCI).
29 teams are expected to start, each of which will be made up of six riders.

There daily average is 123.3 km for a height difference total equal to 13,050 meters.

Giro Next Gen 2024: the stages

Stage 1 (09/06): Aosta-Aosta Tudor ITT (11 km)

Departure and arrival from the capital of the Region that hosts the Grande Partenza; 11 km circuit with small climb halfway (Saint-Christophe loc. Toules).

Stage 2 (10/06): Aymavilles-Saint-Vincent (121 km)

We start from Aymavilles at the entrance to the Val di Cogne heading towards Courmayeur; from there you return, face the climb to Les Combes, continue across the valley until you reach Saint-Vincent where you face a small circuit with a GPM 7 km from the finish.

Stage 3 (11/06): Verrès-Pian della Mussa (127 km)

Departure from Verrès heading south. You leave the Aosta Valley along the Dora Baltea; you cross the Canavese and face the first uphill arrival at Pian della Mussa in the Lanzo valleys.

Stage 4 (12/06): Petrusio-Borgomanero (130 km)

First stage dedicated to sprinters. We start in the Canavese area and head towards Val Sesia; before arriving in Borgomanero you face a short climb and a final circuit with a small climb that could favor a finisseur action in the last km of the race.

Stage 5 (13/06): Bergamo (Kilometro Rosso)-Cremona (136 km)

We start from Bergamo from the Kilometro Rosso innovation hub and head first towards the Lodi area and then turn towards Cremona where a group sprint is expected.

Stage 6 (14/06): Borgo Virgilio-Fosse (145 km)

After departure, the fraction will take place almost entirely in the province of Verona. It is the second uphill finish of the Giro Next Gen, the 9 km of the final ascent comes at the end of a section that crosses the treacherous ups and downs of Valpolicella. A great show is expected from this stage.

Stage 7 (15/06): Montegrotto Terme-Zocca (170 km)

Departure from the Euganean spa area, in the territories of Montegrotto and Abano Terme. In the first part you cross the Euganean hills, then the stage becomes almost flat crossing the Polesine and then into Emilia until reaching the Modena Apennines where you face the third and final uphill finish in Zocca.

Stage 8 (16/06): Cesena-Forlimpopoli (146 km)

Last stop on the roller coaster of the Cesena Apennine hills. In the finale you tackle a circuit with the Bertinoro climb. This too lends itself to being an explosive stage and, in the event of small gaps in the general classification, it could be the one that will decide the final winner of the Giro Next Gen.

The sweaters

There will be five jerseys for the Giro Next Gen. In addition to the traditional ones Pink sweater(general ranking), Red shirt (points classification), Blue shirt (GPM ranking) e White shirt (young classification reserved for runners born in 2005), will also be up for grabs Tricolor shirt for the first rider of Italian nationality in the general classification.
