Volleyball and love for animals. Bruno Borghetti crushes for Indeco Molfetta and donates time to the kennel – MolfettaLive.it

It was while he was walking with his little Pomeranian Yumi that Bruno Borghetti introduced himself to us, telling us his story.
Thirty years, a hectic life and two passions that have never abandoned him, held together by a single fundamental common thread: love.

Born in the city of Porto Alegre, in a region with many Italian and German migrants in southern Brazil, he followed his passion for volleyball by leaving his country, arriving in Italy. “I arrived in Italy seven years ago to play, I traveled all over the country and every year I changed teams,” says Bruno Borghetti, spiker for Indeco Molfetta, one of the top teams in group H of Serie B.

A dedication to sport born when he was only thirteen years old and which led him to leave his parents’ house when he was still a minor, combining training with studying. It is precisely in this period that Bruno will live the most important experience of his career. “I played for two consecutive seasons in the Superliga, which is the top category of the Brazilian men’s volleyball championship. After eighteen years of playing volleyball, this continues to be the most significant experience for me – continues Bruno Borghetti – Once I arrived in Italy, I played in Calabria, Salento, one year in Sorrento, two years in Sardinia and before coming here in Molfetta last September with my wife Jessica, I was in Civitanova in the Marche”.

A professional volleyball player who also works as a volunteer at the Molfetta municipal dog shelter between training sessions.
A love for animals that has always accompanied him. “As a child I grew up on a farm, surrounded by the company of cats, sheep and horses. It was my mother, a biologist, who tried to pass on to me her passion for these creatures. By moving to Molfetta I had the opportunity, together with my wife, to get to know the work of the ENPA volunteers at the kennel and to join them”, says Borghetti.

It was precisely in Molfetta that Bruno and his wife met Yumi, a Pomeranian about a year and a half old who was abandoned when he was just a puppy near the church of San Domenico and who, a few months ago, became part of their family. . “Jessica and I had been intending to adopt a dog for some time, having always been against the practice of buying and selling puppies. I don’t think there is anything more beautiful than giving a second chance to an animal in need, keeping strange beliefs regarding the breed at bay. Love is and must be unconditional, like the one these creatures reserve for us,” Bruno reiterates loudly.

A topic that is close to the volleyball player’s heart, that of abandonment, especially in view of the summer in which, like every year, our streets become the stage of atrocities with around 120 abandoned dogs per day. “Unfortunately there are periods in which the dogs that enter these boxes outnumber those that are adopted – he explains – Each dog has a particular story, a different suffering, but the shelter saved them. When you think of a kennel, horrifying images come to mind with thin, isolated animals, but in Molfetta we found a clean, organized place which sees operators and volunteers who go to the kennel every day for the love of our four-legged guests, the who have suffered the inhumanity of people first hand. The dogs experienced the worst when they were abandoned, the kennel is now a safe place for them.”

Many commitments to reconcile for Bruno: a difficult but not impossible challenge. “Now I’m playing and I can do: as long as I can, I do is my motto – he continues – Until two months ago he worked from Monday to Friday, in the afternoon I have training and some evenings and on the weekend I work in a restaurant. The kennel is a happy island where I renew my energy to face the week: when I’m there I don’t think about anything, every time I come out dirty and tired but very happy.”

In a fast and frenetic society where ‘Chronophage’ has taken over, you don’t think twice about abandoning your relaxation to dedicate yourself to something else. Bruno, on the other hand, cares about his passions and makes them his reason for living. “I have always lived intensely, for this energy I owe a lot to my wife. Surrounding yourself with people who encourage you to always give your best is important, especially if certain resolutions are made genuinely, without ulterior motives. Time for me is relative, even one or two hours can make the difference if you care about what you do. For me and Jessica, these moments of volunteering with the other operators and the dogs have become family moments”, concludes Bruno Borghetti.

Bruno is living proof that what you give to others ends up benefiting you. A giving that is actually a receiving, with the commitment and dedication that only an athlete can understand and with the empathy and love that only those who live in close contact with animals can possess. With the hope that, once the season is over, Bruno will return to the Molfetta municipal kennel. It would mean sharing his passions, volleyball and animals again, here in Molfetta.
