Elisa Longo Borghini adds a new pearl to his series of successes. The Italian champion also writes her name in the Roll of Honor of the Brabant Arrowimposing himself on the finish line in Overijse at the end of an exciting duel with Demi Vollering. The blue of Lidl Trek thus grants an encore on the roads of Belgium, after the splendid success at Tour of Flanders 2024 from a few weeks ago.
“As a team we had the plan to attack on the Moskestraat climb – Longo Borghini’s words immediately after the finish – And so we did. I have to give a lot of credit to my teammates, because they were all very motivated and determined in this race. We did our best and managed to achieve the goal“.
The Italian champion allows herself a smile: “I dedicate the victory to my husband, Jacopo Mosca. Before the race we joked about the fact that in this race there was ‘his’ climb (Moskestraat, precisely – ed). Then I attacked right there… I hope to see him again soon. The duel with Vollering? She is a champion and I have great respect for her. Today I went faster, maybe next time she will do it. Cycling is like that.”
On the short-term future, Longo Borghini’s attention is focused on the Ardennes Classics: “Liège-Bastogne-Liège is one of the objectives I have had in mind since the winter. At the Freccia Vallone we will instead focus on Gaia Realini, while the Amstel Gold Race will see us working for Shirin van Anrooij“.
