For the sixth time in its history, the Giro d’Italia will end in Rome. The second great consecutive arrival of what should be a new cycle for the history of the women’s race, which should no longer include an “itinerant” but fixed finale in the capital, was presented yesterday in the Campidoglio in the presence of the mayor of Rome, Roberto Gualtieri , the president of Rcs MediaGroup, Urbano Cairo, the councilor for major events, sport, tourism and fashion of Rome, Alessandro Onorato, and the CEO of Rcs Sport, Paolo Bellino. Also present were the director of the Giro d’Italia, Mauro Vegni, and Vincenzo Nibali, winner of the Giro d’Italia in 2013 and 2016. The Corsa Rosa 2024 will start on May 4 with the stage from Venaria Reale to Turin to end on 26 in the capital. A route broadly similar to that of last year awaits the runners for the final effort, with the departure from the Eur district and the passage to Ostia, which will be much more of a hit and run compared to what happened last year: between in fact, in just over a month, the group will pedal along a good part of the seafront before returning to via Cristoforo Colombo to return to the heart of the city, where they will be awaited by the final 9.5 km circuit to be repeated 8 times.

Path

The circuit touches many of the symbolic places of Rome: in succession you pass by the Baths of Caracalla, the Colosseum, the Imperial Forums, Piazza Venezia, Lungotevere and Circo Massimo. We therefore follow the 2023 route, which was so successful among all participants and professionals: a route that will tackle very few stretches on cobblestones, precisely to once again avoid what happened in 2018, when there was a protest by the runners due to the conditions of the road surface. Vincenzo Nibali himself stated: «The arrival of the Giro d’Italia in Rome was a winning choice, as it gave a further touch of international visibility. It was a real institutional ceremony, with the President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella present at the final awards ceremony.” The only big change compared to 2023, on the final circuit, will be the finish line, no longer located in via dei Fori Imperiali, but in via San Gregorio, where the grand finale of the old Giro del Lazio was located. «After the great success of last year, we are very happy to host for the second consecutive year the final act of the Giro, one of the most loved and internationally known Italian sporting events – explained the mayor, Roberto Gualtieri – The great arrival of May 26th will in fact be an embrace to the Capital which will be involved with a circuit that will wind from the sea of Ostia to the most evocative places in the center to make the last kilometers of effort of the great pink caravan unforgettable. It will once again be a beautiful sports celebration: for the athletes but also for the many Romans and tourists who will come to experience the wonder of the most beautiful city in the world which pays homage to a timeless event. Rome, once again the Capital of Sport, is ready for another unique and exciting day.”

Calendar

In those days, Rome will truly be the Capital of Sport, with the presence of events such as Piazza di Siena, the tennis Internationals, the athletics sprint festival (with the presence of Marcell Jacobs) and the SetteColli swimming competition. «The final stage last year had 830 thousand live spectators – explained councilor Onorato – generating an economic impact of between 145 and 215 million euros. An extraordinary tourist and economic showcase for the city which will be involved in the big pink embrace, both with the pink ride open to all and with the creation of a mural which will remain at the Conca d’Oro station as a memory and testimony of this extraordinary new adventure sporty”.
