The “Esseneto” stadium in Agrigento has been stacked and is, therefore, officially registered according to the basic and identification data required by the relevant legislation.
Mayor Francesco Miccichè and the municipal councilor with responsibility for sports facilities, Gerlando Piparothey comment: “This is a measure that has been awaited for almost 70 years, and which marks the beginning of a new chapter for the historical, sporting and cultural heritage of the city. The stacking of the stadium is an important recognition of its value, from which the maximum commitment to conservation and redevelopment will derive, enhancing it for present and future generations. We thank all those who have worked with perseverance and dedication towards this goal.”
In the month of July 2023, Councilor Piparo had “discovered” that the stadium, home to important sporting events and the heart of Agrigento football, appeared to have never been registered and even partially built on privately owned land, it seems, for an alleged transcription error in the past. The municipal offices had thus initiated the bureaucratic procedures necessary to address this complex issue, whose origins date back as far as 1930.
The mayor had asked, a few months ago, to proceed with the transfer in the land register of the registration in favor of the Municipality of Agrigento of the parcels that were registered to the State Property of the State of Sicily.
