Agreement close but Atletico, who don’t want to lose us after taking him from Napoli this summer, want a conditional right

The goal is to have it immediately in Trigoria, possibly as early as next week, also because today there is an even greater need for it than yesterday. And Ricky Massara is working on this, to try to bring Giacomo Raspadori to the Giallorossi and give Gian Piero Gasperini the first reinforcement of this winter transfer window. Something important could happen as early as today, with the player expected to have a personal conversation with Diego Simeone, the Atletico Madrid coach, for a personal clarification.
THE NEGOTIATION
—
Roma aims to take Raspadori on a costly loan, with a conditional right of redemption, for a total operation of 20 million euros (2 for the loan, plus 18 for the possible redemption). Now, however, an agreement needs to be found with Atletico Madrid, to reach which essentially two obstacles must be overcome: the final price and the formula. The Spaniards, in fact, bought Raspadori from Napoli by investing 22 million (plus 4 of any bonuses) and they would like to recover. In short, for Atletico if Roma really want Raspadori they must raise their offer. And the formula should also change accordingly, because in Madrid they prefer obligation to the right of redemption. Or, at least, a conditional right, which gives a significant probability that the operation will ultimately be successful. And therefore not a Champions League placement, so to speak, but much more directly a percentage of games played, with a threshold that could even be around 60-65%. In these days we will talk above all about this, about how to possibly reach an agreement for the player’s transfer to the Giallorossi.

Today, however, Atletico will return to training and before taking the field Raspadori will have a conversation with Diego Simeone, who in the summer had pushed to have him with him. Already some time ago the coach was clear with Raspadori, during another private conversation. “So far I haven’t been able to give you what you deserved”, the Argentine coach’s words to the Italian national team striker. Who so far, in these six months with the colchoneros, has really collected the crumbs: 14 appearances out of 25 games, with a total of 406 minutes, which means an average of 29 minutes per match every time he was called into action. Too little to be happy, with Raspadori having been forced to watch Antoine Griezmann (25 games and 1018 minutes) and Thiago Almada (15 games and 571 minutes for him) play more often than not. Today Jack will ask Simeone to let him go, but it remains to be understood what the Atletico coach’s position will be.
IN ROME
—
In Trigoria, therefore, they hope to have the player available as early as next week. Almost impossible for Atalanta (match scheduled for Bergamo on January 3rd), perhaps also difficult for the away match in Lecce (scheduled for January 6th). But the desire and hope is to be able to send him onto the field as early as the 10th, in a match that would also be suggestive for Raspadori, because it would mean making his debut with his new team against Sassuolo, the club that raised him and launched him into great football. The arrival of Raspadori, among other things, is even more urgent now that Lorenzo Pellegrini has also been injured (out for a month, the Roman attacking midfielder risks missing 8-9 games) and that Gasperini has few solutions available in that role. Raspadori, on the other hand, would allow him unpredictability, quality and imagination, all characteristics that the Roma coach looks for in players who must play behind the center forward. Massara hopes to satisfy him soon, even if a lot will depend on Atletico…
