Ternana: Foresti’s return is official. Forti: «Director responsible for the technical area»

by Gianni Giardinieri

A return to Via della Bardesca is looming: it is that of Diego Foresti from Bergamo, former sporting director of Ternana Calcio and now one step away from taking on a new role within the red-green club. It will then be made official on Tuesday afternoon (at the bottom of the note).

Diego Foresti

The official announcement – Foresti was in Terni on Monday evening and Tuesday morning – is expected in the next few hours and, for the moment, the positions of the current general director Giuseppe Mangiarano – seen on Tuesday at lunch in Terni with the (outgoing?) consultant Massimo ‘er viperetta’ Ferrero – and of the sporting director Carlo Mammarella appear to be confirmed.

Foresti would have arrived in the city late on Monday evening, meeting with the Ternana owners in the person of Gian Luigi Rizzo. His return to the rossoverdi management, according to what has been learned, does not include the extension of the contract, which expires in June 2026.

Giuseppe Mangiarano and Massimo Ferrero at lunch

Meanwhile, as mentioned, the meeting ‘at the table’, on Tuesday at a well-known restaurant in the center of Terni, between the current general manager of Ternana Calcio Mangiarano and Massimo Ferrero was not missed. A face to face in which, it is easy to imagine, they will have talked about the current situation, between corporate ‘turmoil’, decisions and meetings of the Rizzo ownership – on Monday at ‘Liberati’ with the team and staff – and more generally about the professional future of both. It is no mystery among insiders that relations between Foresti and Ferrero are not the best: all the more reason to hypothesize that ‘the viper’ will soon leave the scene.

Moreover, the fact that Massimo Ferrero’s fate was sealed had been reiterated by the owners themselves, who had repeatedly mentioned his person and above all his contract, defined as “extremely onerous” and “fairytale-like”. However, the terms of the dismissal need to be understood: dismissal for just cause? Possible consensual resolution? What is certain is that the situation at Ternana increasingly resembles a boiling pot.

THE OFFICIAL NOTE SIGNED BY FABIO FORTI

Fabio Forti

«Having examined the dossier of member Diego Foresti and deemed the reasons that pushed the previous ownership to sack him to be unacceptable; positively evaluated his professional profile and his certain independence with respect to external influences; considering that he is still on the staff of Ternana Calcio and that making him operational again does not entail an additional cost for the company’s coffers; the AU, in agreement with the Rizzo Family, communicates that starting from 2 January 2026, Mr. Diego Foresti will hold the position of director responsible for the technical area. In carrying out the task, he will have to coordinate the entire sports sector of the club, including the youth sector, and lead in complete harmony with the owners, and in particular with Mr. Liverani, in whom the full trust of the Rizzo family must be reiterated, the next purchasing campaign, aimed at technically improving the first team. On this occasion he would also like to point out that today the decision taken unilaterally by the former Au, as a result of which the club would have been banned from the transfer market, has been removed. Ternana Calcio and the Rizzo family wish all the fans a good 2026, in the hope that it will be full of successes on the pitch.”
