It’s not Christmas in Naples without a visit to the nativity scenes of San Gregorio Armeno. Residents and tourists from all over the world have invaded the streets of the historic center since the beginning of December, armed with smartphones and a lot of patience. Via dei Tribunali is undoubtedly the symbol ofovertourism of the Campania capital, narrow and difficult to navigate especially around Christmas. But those who reach Naples, even just for a few hours, do not give up the magic of the nativity scenes. And if the very popular figurines of Ornella Vanoni and Pippo Baudo, who recently passed away, were sold out, those of the protagonists of Napoli’s fourth championship were also sold out.
the most requested

McTominay also wins the prize for the best-selling nativity scene figurine in Naples. The miniature of the Scotsman is the best-selling reproduction during the Christmas period. This was confirmed by Genny Di Virgilio, artist from the workshop of the same name in San Gregorio Armeno: “The McTominay figurine has been snapped up. Even after Christmas it continues to be the most requested. Tourists buy it not only to include it in the nativity scene, but as a relic for the corner of the house dedicated to Napoli”. MVP of the last Serie A, best Scottish player of the year and protagonist of technical gestures that steal the eye, the semi overhead kick against Cagliari which won the championship and the most recent stunt with the Scotland shirt against Denmark. In second place is the statuette of the “leader” of the Azzurri, Antonio Conte. The Napoli coach, who in one year managed to bring the scudetto back to the Campania capital despite not starting as the favourite. And which Di Virgilio has reproduced since his arrival in Naples, placing it in the nativity scene on 24 June 2024, on the eve of its presentation at the Palazzo Reale. Even David Neres’ miniature has timidly joined the list of the most requested figurines. After all, his explosion on the pitch is recent history.
and de bruyne?

What is disappointing is Kevin De Bruyne, the former Manchester City star, in fact, he did not register any shock requests from Napoli fans and football fans from all over the world who flock to the city every day on a pilgrimage to the Maradona Mural. Kevin, however, has been out due to injury since last October 25th, the match against Inter when he suffered a high-grade injury to the hamstring in his right thigh. An injury that will keep him away from the field for a few more months. Who knows, maybe in normal conditions he would have been the one to challenge McTominay for the title of most requested figurine. Rasmus Hojlund also hasn’t caught the fans’ attention, the sale of his figurine is normal. The price of the miniature of president Aurelio De Laurentiis is stable, despite the two championships won in three years and the sumptuous summer transfer market. Out of the league, in the history of football and also in that of nativity scenes, Diego Armando Maradona. El Pibe de Oro continues to be the best-selling, most requested and most popular figurine of all time. Naples is becoming “Disneyfied”, according to the Telegraphwho in a recent report denounces above all the negative aspects ofovertourism in the Campania capital. But finding something negative in the world of Disney is a difficult task, as is finding it in Naples, among magical alleys, blow-ups of Maradona and, of course, the enchanted world of nativity scenes. Between McTominay and Conte, with Maradona in the background, which are worth at least one video in the smartphone gallery.
