Tennis, ATP Adelaide – Jannik Sinner loses in straight sets to Sebastian Korda and a new injury: hip problems

Jannik Sinner goes out in the quarterfinals of the main draw of the Adelaide International 1 tournament, the first of two consecutive ATP 250 category tournaments that will take place in Adelaide (Australia): the blue gave way to the American Sebastian Korda, who won 7-5 6-1 in one hour and twenty-two minutes of play. To be reported, however, in addition to the defeat a new injury for Sinner. Jannik is indeed stopped by left hip problems: less than two weeks from the Australian Open a delicate situation to be monitored in the coming days. Like him, Korda flies to the semifinal against the Japanese Yoshihito Nishioka.

The match

In the first set the blue suffers the opening break, with Korda winning the first eight points played, but the blue responds with a 12-2 run which immediately gives him the counterbreak. We follow the trend of services up to the tenth game, when the American serves to stay in the game and Sinner wastes three set points. Korda saves himself and then he is the one to hit the break in the following game, finally closing at the first set point at 7-5 after 52 minutes of play.

After the medical time out due to a problem with his left hip accused by Sinner following an extension recovery, the second half begins like the first, or with the break at the start of the American. Sinner interrupts the streak of five consecutive games of the North American by finding the 1-2, but then Korda breaks the blue serve again, visibly limited by the accused physical problem, in the fifth and seventh game, and thus goes on to win in the first match point for 6-1 in 30 minutes.

The statistics reward the American, who wins 61 points against the 44 of the Italian, conceding four break points, of which only one exploited by Sinner, and converting five of the nine he had. The blue fielded 64% of first games (34/53) and obtained 68% of points on the first game (23/34), with 32% on the second game (6/19, with 3 double faults).
