It opened under the banner of drama on the first day of the new year in Suellowhere a 37 year old, Andrea Ponzonilost his life following a serious accident during a paragliding flight.

The information on the incident is currently fragmentary: according to what has emerged so far, the man would have taken off from Monte Cornizzolo – a point of reference for many enthusiasts in the area and beyond – while the crash occurred in Via San Miro, in a wooded area located a short distance from the flying school and the headquarters of the Scurbatt club.
For reasons yet to be clarified, the 37-year-old would have impacted, during landing, against a rock face, perhaps following the sudden closure of the canopy. A very violent impact that left him no escape.
The alarm went off around 12.30, with the rescue machine moving quickly. Health workers intervened on site with an ambulance from the Green Cross of Bosisio, supported by nursing staff.
Despite the timely intervention, unfortunately there was nothing more that could be done for Ponzoni: any attempt to resuscitate him was in vain.
The firefighters of the Lecco command and the Valmadrera detachment and the Carabinieri also arrived in Suello, in charge of the necessary investigations to shed full light on the dynamics of the tragedy.
The news of the passing of Andrea Ponzoni – known as ”Ponz” has caused great pain: originally from Garlate, a life spent between Suello and Cantù (Como), he was an expert paraglider, with a passion for flying in his blood. After following an intense training course, he was part of the Monte Cornizzolo Aero Club team.
Married and the father of a little girl, at the end of his studies – including the five-year period at the Celana high school in Caprino (in the photo above ed.) – he found work in a company in Monte Marenzo, where he worked in marketing.
It seems that this morning, despite the not particularly favorable weather, the 37-year-old had decided to usher in the new year with a symbolic flight, to share with some friends. Andrea, however, did not know that yet another take-off from the top of Cornizzolo would be the last of his (short) existence.
