Elderly found died in his home in Castrignano of the Greeks in Salento: his carer was arrested and taken to prison. The turning point came at dawn.
According to what emerged during the investigation, the man’s death would have arisen following an argument, for trivial reasons, at lunchtime, at the end of which the 36-year-old Moldovan carer – believed to be the alleged perpetrator of the murder – would have hit the retired at the nape of the neck and in all parts of the body.
Inside the house, where the two had been living for some time, the military found items of clothing and a smartphone, attributable to the alleged perpetrator of the crime, stained with blood.
What happened
Fernando Monte, 81 years old from Castrignano dei Greci was found lifeless yesterday afternoon – Sunday 30 June – inside his home, by his daughter who had stopped by with her husband to visit him, returning from a day at the beach. The two relatives, as usual, had stopped by to check on the health of the elderly man, and instead they found him fallen, with his assistant sitting next to him, a 36 year old Moldovan, in a clear state of confusion.
Once the alarm was raised in the house on Via Trieste, the 118 paramedics and the Carabinieri intervened shortly thereafter, but there was nothing more that could be done for the 81-year-old man.
According to the reconstruction of some witnesses, who spoke to the military involved in the investigation, the elderly man was found lying in a pool of blood. Having cordoned off the street to keep away the curious, the carabinieri intensified their investigations with the support of their colleagues from the scientific police. The magistrate on duty and the coroner, Alberto Tortorella, also went to the scene, and in the next few hours they could be given the task of performing an autopsy on the elderly man’s body. In the meantime, Monte’s body was transferred to the “Fazzi” hospital in Lecce.
Scenes of high tension and screams of deep pain were experienced with the arrival of the deceased’s family. The search for clarifications to the assistant who had been entrusted with the care of the elderly relative was also desperate. The 40-year-old, in shock, was then loaded into an ambulance and taken to the hospital for tests. However, there are still several unknowns being examined by the military and doubts raised by the deceased man’s family regarding the dynamics of the facts.
