“The far right is the enemy of women“. “Let’s sound the feminist alert“. “The National Rally he will not have our vote.” “They are the ones who have to go back, not our rights“. Seven days before the legislative elections in France, feminist associations took to the streets in arms whistles and placards to protest against the advance of the party of Marine Le Pen. A call that came after, according to the latest Ipsos analysis, it emerged that the RN advanced in the female electorate by almost 10 points and just as the leader Jordan Bardella has decided to attempt the final transformation on women’s rights (so much so as to claim the Yes to abortion in the Constitution).
This is also why the associations have decided to launch their mobilization. Almost 60 initiatives and processions were organized throughout France, from Paris to Lille and Toulouse. “Following the irresponsible dissolution of theNational Assembly” wanted by Macron, we read in the appeal signed by more than 200 companies engaged in the fight for women’s rights and beyond, “the possibility that the far right will come to power is now very real”. Only two weeks ago the RN triumphed at the European elections and the polls on Friday 21 June give them over 30 percent of the vote. “We know“, they argue, “that the main obsession“of the far right”it is to destroy the rights and freedoms of a large part of the population: women, racialized, disabled, trans and LGBTQIA+ people, migrant people, girls and children. We also know that it will attack the entire social movement head-on.” The political manifesto of the protest continues: “The far right in power, we know, it would mark the end of a certain conception of democracyof the rule of law, and of numerous freedoms, already largely reduced in recent years”.
The feminist associations and collectives say: “We know that our rights they are never acquired forever“. And “in many regions of the world they have been attacked and sometimes suppressed by far-right governments in favor of deadly political projects.” And when they have to mention the countries where they are questioned, they start from Italy: “Giorgia Meloni’s far right she railed against citizenship income, the right to abortion and the right to medically assisted procreation for lesbian couples. In Spain, the far-right Vox denies the very existence of violence against women and gender minorities. From 2020, in Poland, abortion is prohibited even in the case of malformation of the fetus. In Francethe National Assembly has already planned to eliminate Family Planning funding”.
The accusation is not limited to Marine Le Pen and her party. Feminist associations attack what has been done by recent governments and under the presidency of Emmanuel Macron: “These far-right ideas also inspired several deleterious reforms in France in recent years with particularly heavy consequences for women and all minorities (immigration law, pension reform, unemployment insurance, etc.). These liberticidal and anti-social reforms have paved the way for the far right, accentuating the desperation and suffering of an entire population.” For this reason, they call for collective mobilization. And, of the political leaders of each party, they ask “to do not nominate men involved in or convicted of sexist and sexual violence. #MeTooPolitical, it’s time to take this into account.” Then, it is the final roll call, “June 30th and July 7th Let’s act as a barrier against the far right and we vote en masse for a future that allows the emancipation and freedom of all.”
