Giuseppe Conte responds to Beppe Grillo (and not only to him): «The fate of the Movement is not in his hands»

«The fate of the Movement is not in Grillo’s hands. It is in the hands of an entire community that will decide its future at the constituent assembly next September.” This is how the president of the 5 Star Movement Giuseppe Conte responds to the reporters in Transatlantico, commenting on the latest statements of the M5S founder. Yesterday Beppe Grillo, in one of his theater shows, had directed bitter jokes at the former prime minister. «It’s a historic moment, I met Conte yesterday, he made me a little tender. He got more Berlusconi votes when he was dead than he did when he was alive”, he declared from the stage. «It’s no longer the time to shout, it’s Conte’s era, he is a moderate person. The Movement that we made perhaps no longer exists, they say that perhaps we have been vaporised, perhaps that is the right word. We did some wonderful things,” added the comedian. Jokes, in the grill vein that everyone has always known, but which could reveal a certain tension between the comedian and the lawyer. Conte then tried to tone things down: «We talked for an hour and a half – he told reporters – we joked, laughed, I left him in excellent shape, absolutely involved and lively. Then let him freely make the jokes he wants. Compared to the one he did on Berlusconi, I found the one on Draghi grillino more original even if more damaging for the M5s.”

Conte replies to Raggi: «The M5S camp is progressive»

«What does it mean to return to the origins? Does it mean restart, rewind? The political and social context has completely changed. If you can’t interpret it, you’re further and further out”, Conte added, commenting on Virginia Raggi’s recent statements. Al Corriere della Sera Recently the former mayor had said that allying with other political forces distorted the Movement’s nature. To those who asked him if the chosen camp was the progressive one, Conte replied: “Absolutely, then if anyone has right-wing inclinations they will draw the consequences.”
