European Championships: social networks crown Meloni, Schlein and Conte badly

While voters are currently called to the polls to renew the European Parliament, the first verdicts come directly from the web. THE social networks, an increasingly decisive platform in political influence and in shifting votes, provide us with an exhaustive and useful framework for understanding the first impressions of “networker” citizens on the main leaders of our local politics. To show once and for all the role of social media in European elections 2024 it is a search carried out by SocialData, exclusively for Adnkronoson social conversations over the last month.

The feedback? It’s easy to say: the data smiles on the center-right and, in particular, on the prime minister Giorgia Meloni. The Prime Minister, in fact, emerges as the most mentioned and discussed leader on social media. With 41 thousand mentions, which represent 27% of the total relating to the topic of the European elections, manages to detach the main opponents. Starting obviously from the other and only female leadership, Elly Schlein. The Democratic secretary and Meloni’s main political rival reaches only 11% of mentions, also positioning herself as an extremely polarizing figure. Her polarization index, according to research data, remains among the highest on the national political scene. But what should worry the young leader of the Democratic Party is the ruling female audience: among those least cited by the female gender are Giuseppe Conte (36%) and Elly Schlein (38%).

In short, the wide field Giallorossi does not seem to receive the expected support from women. And not even a feminist leadership at the helm of the Nazarene, as repeatedly repeated by Elly herself, has managed to reverse this negative judgment. On the other hand, although remaining among the political leaders candidates for the European elections, we find the leader of Italia Viva, Matteo Renziand number one in Action, Carlo Calenda. The two former allies are the leaders most cited by the female public: 46% of women who speak on European issues cite the former prime minister, followed by 42% of Calenda and 41% of Giorgia Meloni.

Among the politicians who have decided not to run, however, we find the leader of the Northern League, Matteo Salviniand the five-star leader, Giuseppe Conte. Both, following the research data carried out by Social Data, maintain a certain popularity among social users. Salvini collects 10% of total mentions, while Conte stands at 6.7%. Both leaders show a high polarization index, indicative of the public’s contrasting reactions (0.78 Salvini, 0.77 Conte). Moving with a focus on the candidates most cited by social media, it is to stand out Roberto Vannacci.

The former general, now Northern League candidate, collects 5% of total mentions on the European elections. They follow Ilaria Salis (1.8%), Emma Bonino (1.8%), Michele Santoro (1.2%), Ignazio Marino (1.1%), Dario Nardella (1%), Stefano Bonaccini (1%).
