The Austrian Sebastian Gishamer was the referee designated by UEFA for Italy-Turkey, the first of the two friendly matches of the Azzurri in view of Euro 2024. He made his debut as main referee in 2013 in the Fußball-Bundesliga. In 2019 he was promoted to international referee by UEFA. However, he does not have much international experience, he has directed in his career one Europa League match and three in the Conference. Let’s see how he fared yesterday at the Dall’Ara stadium in Bologna.
Gishamer’s precedents with Italy and Türkiye
The Austrian referee had never managed the Italian and Turkish national teams before, in his CV there are only two matches with Inter Under 19 and Milan Under 19.
The referee cautioned two players
Assisted by his compatriot assistants Andreas Heidenreich and Santino Schreiner, with fourth official Antonio Rapuano, the referee booked two players, both from Spalletti’s national team: Orsolini and Mancini.
Italy-Türkiye, slow-motion cases
These are the dubious episodes. First yellow in the 29th minute for Orsolini who brings down Yildiz who had dribbled past him. In the 62nd minute Fagioli comes on in place of Jorginho. Before entering the pitch Spalletti hugged the midfielder. Second and final yellow in the 91st minute for Mancini after a tactical foul by the defender. For the referee Italy-Turkey it was a calm match to control and the VAR never had to intervene.
