THE OTHER SYSTEMS
In essence, mobile devices whose use on certain high-traffic roads has increased. In 2023, checks were carried out on almost two million motorists led to the discovery of 107 thousand irregularities. Also in this case certain “revenue” (at least on paper) for the administration coffers. And in the first quarter of 2024, unlike the “trend” of the Giovanni XXIII Gallery, the average of confirmed violations remained constant: 25 thousand violations were detected in the first three months of the current year.
However, despite the increase in fines that follows an increase in road checks decided by the General Command of the local police also with a view to prevention considering the rate of fatal accidents which makes Capitala “black” metropolis on a national scale, the “diligence” of those fined is slow to manifest itself.
I STUDY
In fact, based on a recent study published by “Facile.it”, based on Siope data, the information system for the operations of public bodies, updated as of February 15th, During 2023, Rome collected less fines than the Milan administration, a city not only smaller than the capital but with a much smaller private “vehicle fleet”. Rome nevertheless climbed onto the podium, surpassing the revenue recovered for example by Naples but in fact it is surpassed for the recovery of infringements by the Lombard capital. Going into detail, while Milan in 2023 confiscated 147,005,625 euros, Rome stopped at 138,784,861 euros. Bronze medal for Florence which takes the podium in third place with 71,806,642 euros in revenues.
Facile.it has also calculated the value of “per capita fine” (as the ratio between the proceeds recorded in Siope and the number of resident inhabitants): in first place, in this case, is Florence but the silverware goes to Rieti which in 2023 collected 7.5 million euros in fines, with a per capita value of just under 166 euros compared to a population that does not reach (excluding the province) 60 thousand residents. Another surprise was “given” by the small municipality of Poggio San Lorenzo, in the province of Rieti: just 546 inhabitants and 415 thousand euros in bills.
