Genoa, the anti-fascist march paralyzes half the city – Primocanale.it

GENOA – From April 25, moving on to conflicts on the borders of Europe, up to the deaths of students during school-work alternationThese are some of the themes that resonated during the procession that wound through the streets of the Ligurian capital and paralyzed a large part of the city.

The meeting in Corso Gastaldi, in front of the student’s house, was subsequently covered via Montevideovia Crimea, via Odessa, piazza Alimonda, via Invrea, passing through piazza delle Americas and G. Verdi, via Fiume and via XX Settembre until arriving at piazza De Ferrari.

Numerous police officers were deployed, especially in the area surrounding the Casa Pound headquarters. Already in 2019 Genova Antifascista and the Antagonists had clashed in Piazza Corvetto, where in addition to the location of the protest there was a demonstration by the far-right party. Traffic was at a standstill, especially in Corso Gastaldi and Corso Buenos Aires (where an accident also occurred ed) and viale Brigate Partigiane, in front of the Brignole train station.

On the premises of the Student House the demonstrators hung other writings, occupying the roadway of Corso Gastaldi. In a few minutes the traffic went completely haywire. Around 7.10pm the procession arrived in front of the now closed Casa Pound headquarters, protected by policemen in riot gear, to avoid incidents that could fuel a possible clash. The only moment of tension was recorded in front of the headquarters, when smoke bombs were thrown and there were burned a couple of Casa Pound flags.

In the next passage, in Piazza Alimonda, the demonstrators sang a chorus for Carlo Giuliani, the young protester who took part in the protests during the G8 and who was killed there on 20 July by a carabiniere who was inside the van. . A US flag burned.

The procession continued passing first in front of the Brignole station and then under the headquarters of Confindustria Genova in via Fiume. Here, mannequins symbolizing deaths at work have been placed.

Then the procession arrived in Via XX Settembre. Smoke bombs and fireworks accompanied the arrival of the Genova Antifascista demonstrators in Piazza De Ferrari shortly after 9pm. Choirs and music continued in the heart of the Genoese square.
