TIGGIANO – The escape of Roberto Nuccio, a 48-year-old from Tiggiano, who has been untraceable since 2017 to escape Italian justice, ends after six years. The man was arrested yesterday morning by the police, who took advantage of the Christmas period to close the circle around the wanted man.

The profile and convictions

Nuccio was the recipient of a detention order issued by the Public Prosecutor’s Office at the Court of Lecce. A cumulative sentence of 4 years and 2 months in prison was pending against him. The 48-year-old, who had left the national territory years ago, must answer for various crimes committed over time, including: attempted theft, receiving stolen goods, escape and solicitation of minors.

The investigation: a silent job

The arrest was not the result of chance, but the result of a complex investigative activity conducted by the Carabinieri of the Corsano station, with the support of Alessano’s colleagues and the operational unit of the Tricase mobile radio operations unit.

The military carried out “silent” work for months, consisting of gathering information and listening to the area. The turning point came thanks to the intuition of the investigators: the belief that, despite being on the run abroad (to be precise, in Germany), the man could give in to the desire to spend the Christmas holidays in his home, next to his family.

The blitz

The intuition turned out to be correct. Once the presence of the 48-year-old in the town was ascertained, the operational plan was implemented. The police surrounded the house and intervened at the right time, surprising the subject inside the house.

The man was unable to resist. After the formalities, Roberto Nuccio was transferred to the prison in Lecce, where he is now available to the judicial authorities to serve the remaining sentence.
