Rome, 20 April 2024 – Probably the Ukraine’s fate is decided today in Washington where the Congress will vote on the approval of the 61 billion dollars of military supplies to Kiev, blocked for months by the Republicans at the invitation of Donald Trump. It will be a vote decisive for the fate of the waras experts from the Institute for the Study of War (ISW) confirm: they remained in Kiev limited air defense capabilities and degraded by continuous use, a limit that remains opening the skies to fighter-bombers of Moscow which can thus penetrate up to 100 kilometers into Ukrainian territory and operate peacefully without the risk of being shot down. Precisely for this reason, the destruction yesterday of a Tu-22M3 long-range jet, and the ability to do so again, could prove fundamental in limiting the range of action of the Russian air force. But, adds the ISW, it will not be enough for long.

Zaporizhzhia region, Russian reporter killed
A war correspondent for the Russian newspaper Izvestia died during a Ukrainian drone attack in the south-eastern region of Zaporizhzhia. On Friday, journalist Semyon Eremin and his crew were returning from reporting on the front lines in the village of Pryiutne. The newspaper writes: “They were attacked simultaneously by several enemy drones. The first attack failed, but during the second the journalist was injured and died.” Eremin was 42 years old and had already documented the war in the eastern Donetsk region and during the siege of Mariupol. Moscow called it an “act of revenge” for his journalistic work.

Russia, soon a research and development center for drones and robotic systems
Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu, after visiting a drone testing base near Moscow, announced that Russia will soon have a center for research and production of UAVs and robotic systems. “The Russian Defense Minister emphasized that the center will host various enterprises, laboratories and design bureaus that develop and produce advanced weapons,” the ministry’s statement explains.

Moscow: 50 Ukrainian drones launched against Russian regions shot down
The Russian Defense Ministry has claimed responsibility for shooting down 50 Ukrainian drones launched against several regions of Russia. In particular, 26 military UAVs were intercepted over the Belgorod region, 10 over the Bryansk region, 8 over the Kursk region, two over the Tula region and one each over the Smolensk, Ryazan, Kaluga and Moscow regions.
