“I’ll take the moped because I want to be independent but now I’m going to bicycle: I don’t want to give up my friendships.” That’s all the talking Giuseppina Molari, known by all as “Giose”, the 103 year old woman stopped on Monday by the police while driving her car with the expired license and without insurance a Bondenoin the province of Ferrara.
The lady was stopped by the Carabinieri. She was returning home to Vigarano Pieve after spending a quiet evening in the company of friends in the premises of the Bondeno Workers’ House to play burracohis great passion.
She became disoriented and therefore couldn’t find her way home. A citizen, seeing his Fiat Panda proceeding in a dangerous manner in Piazza della Repubblica, alerted the police who tracked it down after a few minutes, triggering the contraventions required by the Highway Code because – as emerged from the check – his license had expired two years ago and he had no insurance coverage.
But the old woman, a former sugar factory worker, doesn’t give up. To the microphones of TgR Emilia Romagna he explained that he wanted to “get a scooter, so as not to give up mine independence. I want to maintain my network of friends and I want to be independent in my commitments, from shopping to playing cards. I have never marriedI was engaged for 7 years but I didn’t want to support a man.”
At the moment he is content to move around bikes, cycling more than 20 minutes to reach Bondeno, where he has a lot of friends. She also remembered the moment in which the police stopped her: “They gave me a report but they were good. Then they took my car and took it to the body shop.”
