Angelina Mango is experiencing a golden age. After participating in Amici, you won the 2024 Sanremo Festival with “La Noia”, representing Italy in the Eurovision Song Contest. Laura Valente’s career and private life
Laura Valente was born in Milan on 3 September 1963. She began collaborating in the world of music and was noticed by Gianni Bella and, thanks to a duet with the composer, she obtained a contract from Fonit Cetra. In 1983 she met Pino Mango who, struck by her skill, chose her as a backing vocalist for some of her songs. The singer’s first 45 was released the following year. She continues with various collaborations, from Mango to Rosanna Fratello up to joining the group of Matia Bazar. It was 1989 when Antonella Ruggiero decided to leave the band. In 1990 Laura Valente joined and performed, for the first time in the new lineup, in 1991, live, in Amsterdam. They took part in the Sanremo Festival in 1992, then in Cantagiro and Festivalbar.
After a series of successful albums and concerts that cemented the group’s success on the Italian scene, the group’s bassist died in 1998, Aldo Stellitaafter a long illness. The other members of the band don’t feel like continuing without their colleague, precisely because he has always been seen as the soul and fulcrum of Matia Bazar. She returned to the stage of the Sanremo Festival in 2007 as a guest of her husband Mango for the song “Chissà se nevica”. Over the course of her career, she has released 4 albums with Matia Bazar and only one solo album, released in 1985 and entitled “Tempo di blues”. Her latest single, “Yo soy Callas”, dates back to 2010.
On TV she appeared in some daytime episodes of Amici to help the kids, as a teacher and coach, during their live performances, suggesting some effective methods to communicate what they were singing and interpreting. As for his private life, Laura Valente was with Pino Mango from 1983 until the day of his death, which occurred on December 8, 2014, after a heart attack while performing in a charity concert at the PalaErcole in Policoro. The two had married ten years earlier, in 2004, and had two children, Filippo (born in 1995) and – obviously – Angelina, in 2001. Mango was performing one of his most famous songs, “Oro”, in moment he felt ill on stage. And it was precisely that song that also marked the meeting with his beloved Laura. In fact, that day, he was in the recording studio busy rehearsing this piece, when he met his future wife and mother of their two children.
