Weather forecast, the grip of the African heat and the warning for rain and large hail

Watch out for the next few hours due to the transit of an unstable front which will cause strong thunderstorms and local hailstorms, including large ones. The African anticyclone Scipione, which has dominated the Italian climate in recent days bringing a stable meteorological picture and high temperatures, is starting to lose some of its energy.

The six cities in the grip of the heat

This change will mark the return to more unstable weather conditions for some regions and a consequent focus on heat. Temperatures around 30 degrees, in fact, are expected starting today, enough to trigger the yellow alert (level 1, meteorological conditions that do not pose a risk to the health of the population) in six cities, namely Rome, Bologna, Campobasso, Frosinone, Latina and Perugia. This is what is reported through the heat wave bulletin of the Ministry of Health which processes daily reports for 27 cities, with 24, 48 and 72 hour forecasts.

The first rains

The regions of the North and part of the Center will then be affected by the meteorological change. In the next few hours, in fact, the sky will be very cloudy in most of the areas where the first light rains, distributed in a very irregular form, cannot be excluded. However, it will be the afternoon that will show the most evident signs of the worsening, starting above all from Northwest regions, with forecasts of strong thunderstorms that could cause disruption due to intense showers and local hailstorms. In the Centre, however, less intense phenomena are expected, with occasional rainfall which could, however, affect several locations.

Favorable weather conditions in the South

In stark contrast to the rest of the country, the South will continue to enjoy favorable weather conditions. The sky will remain mostly sunny, allowing for a few more days of relaxation on the beaches and in the open air.

Hail in the Triveneto

The situation will worsen further in the evening and during the night, when the bad weather will move eastwards. In particular, the districts of the Triveneto (Trentino-Alto Adige, Veneto and Friuli-Venezia Giulia) will have to deal with heavy rain, thunderstorms and even local hailstorms.

The Civil Protection alert

Based on the available forecasts, the Department of Civil Protection, in agreement with the regions involved, which are responsible for activating the civil protection systems in the territories concerned, has issued a warning of adverse weather conditions. The weather phenomena, impacting the different areas of the country, could determine hydrogeological and hydraulic criticalities which are reported, in a national summary, in the national criticality and alert bulletin which can be consulted on the Department’s website.

Sunday’s yellow alert in the North

A yellow alert has also been assessed for Sunday 9 June in the Aosta Valley, in the Alpine and pre-Alpine areas of Piedmont, in the Autonomous Province of Bolzano, in part of Lombardy, Emilia-Romagna, Veneto and Umbria.
