Still intense heat with the Scipione anticyclone, record highs of up to 40°C

We are about to reach the peak of the African heat in some regions of our country, for this reason we are wondering how long and which regions will continue to last in the next few days.

After a period of weather instability that characterized much of May and early June, the African anticyclone Scipio it brought stable atmospheric conditions across Italy. This has favored a notable increase in temperatures, which have now reached midsummer levels.

Attention, because right from Sunday 9 June temperatures will reach significant levels. Sardinia, Sicily and Puglia will record the highest peaks, with highs up to 37-38°C. The rest of the country will also see a thermal increase: peaks close to 35-36°C to the South, especially in the Ionian areas, and up to 33-34°C in the internal areas of the Centre.

A slightly different story however for the North, where the arrival of greater atmospheric instability and consequent less sunshine will lead to a slight decline in the mercury columns. Where there is greater clearing, there will still be peaks close to 30°Cwhile in areas affected by greater instability the thermometers may oscillate around 26-28°C.

Furthermore, this meteorological deterioration will also influence the beginning of next week. A scenario of marked difference between North and South is emerging. Between Monday 10th and Tuesday 11th while in the North atmospheric instability will mitigate the heat, in the South, in particular in Puglia and on the two major islands, theanticyclone Scipio it will intensify, pushing temperatures even higher, until reaching record highs 39-40°C and locally even beyond.

In summary, in the next few days the great heat is destined to continue unabated in the southern regions, while in the North and in a large part of the Centre, we will return to experiencing a context of less oppressive heat and with temperatures certainly closer to our climate standards.
