Eminem is under fire for making a Megan Thee Stallion joke in his new song.

The rapper has in fact received strong negative reaction for having downplayed the 2020 shooting involving Megan in his new single “Houdini”.

At the time the 29-year-old, whose real name is Megan Pete, was shot in the foot by rapper Tory Lanez during a house party. Lanez was later sentenced to 10 years in prison for the crime.

The first verse of «Houdini» features a play on words referencing the incident, with Eminem rapping: «If I was to ask Megan Thee Stallion if she would collaborate with me would I really have a shot at a feat?» . «Feat» is both an abbreviation of «featuring», a term used to describe musical collaborations, and a homophone of the word «feet».

Many fans were disappointed

Numerous fans expressed disappointment with Slim Shady, whose real name is Marshall Mathers, for what they perceived as his downplaying of violence against women.

«What the fuck with this attitude! Men love to bring up traumatic moments in women’s lives to get attention,” wrote one user on X/Twitter. “Leave Megan alone.”

“Megan gets so many unprovoked jokes about her shooting, it’s disgusting and weird,” another wrote.

“I wonder again, what’s so funny about a black woman getting shot in the foot,” another user wrote, adding, “why is she always the butt of every damn rap song? I do not understand.”

One fan summed up the common sentiment, writing, “A man, especially a white man, downplaying a black woman’s trauma will never hit the mark for me.”
