Angelina Mango, favorite at Eurovision 2024: «My luck is to be surrounded by love»

Her highly successful performance at Eurovision 2024 consecrated her as an artist of international level, but Angelina Mango, already winner of the Sanremo Festival, has many people around «who keep me grounded, from my team to my family.” His brother Filippo and mother Laura Valente (ex voice of Matia Bazar) are an indispensable presence in his life, as he explained in an interview with TV Smiles and Songs. «They are always there when I need them, whenever I have a moment of doubt, or a lack of energy. They never back down.” She often collaborates with Filippo: «It’s thanks to him that I write songs, he’s the one who taught me how to do it. You always follow your older brother’s example: seeing him making music, it was inevitable for me».

Angelina, who for many years lived in Basilicata, the homeland of her father, Mango, now lives in Milan, in the Navigli area, with her boyfriend, Antonio Cirigliano. When she succeeds, she likes to dedicate herself to the house (“It’s important to take care of your living space”), and especially to cook. In her free time, she walks a lot: «MI like to wander around Milan without Google Maps, close the phone, get lostfinding myself very far away and having to travel kilometers to get home, looking at people.”

And if they recognize her, she’s pleased: «I really have a mania for going to crowded places and greeting people. Well, if it’s 8 in the morning and I’m running around with my makeup on, maybe I’ll keep my sunglasses on… But every now and then I look for that type of contact, of affection. It’s like a recharge. I also look for the energy I receive on stage on the street.”

At Eurovision she performed with five dancers, «kind girls but with strong personalities, choreographed by Mecnun Giasar, a genius. From the first meeting in the studio we immediately understood that we could work smoothly. Collaborating with sweet people makes everything easy.” His song, Boredom (the same one with which he won the Sanremo festival), it was cut due to regulatory requirements. But Angelina Mango cares little: «It wasn’t traumatic, the important things about Boredom it’s the humanity that shines through and the energy, it wasn’t contained in seven or eight seconds.” Eurovision is also an opportunity to meet many colleagues from other countries: «They’re all nice! I try not to give weight to the competition: I see this occasion as a Festival that unites cultures and nationsI don’t think much about the race, it seems to me that it goes into conflict with the music.”

Her performance earned her one standing ovation. «If abroad they see something good in me, even if they don’t know my past and my family’s history well, it’s even more rewarding».
