by Giovanna Tamponi

It’s not easy to talk about Kidd Reoa very young artist from Olbia with many facets. We can say with certainty about him that music is his habitat, in which he grew up being family tradition. Here he developed many passions. Thanks to his brother he soon approached R & B (Rhythm and blues) and then rap, ranging between blues, rock and punk. Today, in addition to being a singer and author, he produces himself and other emerging young people with his own music label, YVL, an acronym for Young Vibes Lovers. Important goals, the result of tenacity, love for music and unshakable trust in his work. He told his story for us, explaining the difficulties and satisfactions of his 21 years.

Kidd Reo is a rapper and producer with an atypical style, who is growing a lot artistically and developing his own personal expression. The main characteristic of him is the care in the texts, thanks to which he expresses, with an abundance of words, deep feelings and secret emotions. Her first singles “She loves Me, she loves me not” And “Late” travel along refined melodic lines and bring the listener into his personal stories, which he can easily identify with. These are two autobiographical songs, which lay bare pieces of reality with frank, immediate language, which easily manages to “get through”. In these songs the author talks about himself openly with great sensitivity, detaching himself from a musical genre that tends towards appearing rather than being. For Kidd Reo, words are extremely important, and flow through a varied and creative flow. He expertly uses rap to make it a communication tool.

Kidd Reo is the perfect interpreter of a dualism capable of interacting between his two souls: the private, intimate and secret one, and the public one, which can be shown to others because this is what the world of entertainment requires. So, who is Kidd Reo? He replies that he is definitely the most extroverted part of Alex, his real name. It is that part of himself that allows him to express his emotions and thoughts more freely and authentically. His lyrics and his music therefore arise from a need to communicate. He draws inspiration from vibes, from the surrounding atmosphere, from everyday life. These are the elements that fuel his creative flow.

The new single “All right”

All right” is the new single from Kidd Reo, available on digital platforms from April 26th. Born as “story telling”, it is essentially the autobiographical story of a “toxic” relationship. The protagonist stops fighting for fear of losing his loved one, deciding to stay, in the illusion that the relationship is all in all satisfactory, that it is “all right”. At the same time he enters a loop of mood swings, between malaise and confusion, without being able to make the decision that would save both of them.
“…at least from the way you speak, I seem like your biggest mistake, but then you say I miss you…”.
This piece therefore becomes a warning for people involved in a toxic relationship, so that they find the strength to break a chain that hurts rather than makes people grow and feel good.

“All Right” is a song that talks about awareness, self-esteem and hope. “I hope that the message can reach those who need to understand that they can get out of a difficult situation. Even if getting out is difficult, it is still “all right”. The song was born from a deep desire for musical renewal, with rap sequences and Afrobeats and trap influences, but with the desire not to give up the influences of its origins (r&b). Kidd Reo is the author of the lyrics and music, in collaboration with the producer Tony Scott.

The Kidd Reo interview

Let’s talk about autotune, compared to your first songs in this latest single it undergoes a stylistic evolution. In this single you manage to use it in a rather particular way compared to what is fashionable in the current music scene, how did the idea come about?
“I always wanted to use autotune not as a vocal correction tool but as a stylistic tool. I like the idea of giving that new and modern sound to pieces that may be of one genre or another. I like autotune because it creates a different atmosphere from the typical voice.”
Everyone certainly noticed your excellent “delivery” on the Casa Sanremo stage, the great communicative energy you manage to release, how did you feel in front of the thousands of spectators who witnessed your performance?
“Participating in Casa Sanremo was an incredible experience. I have wonderful memories of it and I am extremely grateful for the opportunity given to me by maestro Ciro Barbato and maestro Maria Puca, two extraordinary people from both an artistic and human point of view. They are people with a heart of gold, passionate about music and they made me feel welcomed straight away. The feedback from the audience was incredible, even though my genre of music might seem a little difficult to listen to.”
Tell us about Kidd Reo as a producer. Do you have your own brand? Despite your young age you are already producing other artists, like Elegio, it’s a great responsibility.
“Kidd Reo’s productions are characterized by a varied and innovative sound, constantly evolving. Working as a producer allows me to constantly experiment, always seeking new creative directions. I currently work with several artists, such as Elegio, Iside and Nove, who are part of the YVL collective. Each of them has a unique musical style, but we share a passion for the vibes that inspire us to create music.”
Thanks for dedicating your time to us, do you want to say something to those who want to try their hand at the world of rap?
“More than in the world of rap, I say in the world of music in general… To all those who follow me and ask me many times, I advise you to always believe in it, never stop and not have the paranoia or in any case the anxieties that block many artists who for this reason are unable to emerge, and then I can only wish the best of luck to those who want to try”.
