Max Pezzali, the new single is ‘Discoteche abandoned’, from today only on the radio

4 years after his last recording and after extraordinary live successes, Max Pezzali come back with Abandoned nightclubs. Written with Jacopo Ettorre and Michele Canova, who also oversaw its production, the new single available only on the radio from April 15th, was born thinking about the phenomenon of abandoned discos, a “cemetery” of cult places that over the years has inspired books and exhibitions throughout Italy.

The disco, which has always been a center of aggregation, fun and excess but also of experimentation, innovation, counterculture and freedom, becomes the backdrop to the stories told by Max in his songs who for the first time, with his nostalgic pen, looks back to evoke memories.

“From the 60s of the twentieth century to the first decade of the twenty-first, discos, heirs of the ancient dance halls, were the place where they could be what they wanted, at least for a few hours: bouncers and bouncers, bartenders and DJs, cubists and drag queens, playboys and supergirls, dancers, statues, straight and queer – says Max Pezzali – At the center was the track: stage and ring, a common space in which all differences were canceled out. Today a large part of that world no longer exists: what remains of it are ruins eroded by time and the echo of voices, laughter, tears, dreams and hopes of generations of young people who were lucky enough to experience it.”

The video clip of the song, directed by Dario Garegnani, collects several images taken from Disco Mute, the cult book published by Magenes which, more than anyone else, was able to immortalize extraordinary places that had been abandoned for years and were also rediscovered by the location managers Calloni and Alessandro Tesei. The images, edited in a reanimated version, allow all those clubs to come back to life and are accompanied by the testimonies of many DJs of Italian and international fame who contributed to making those places and those years eternal.

Abandoned nightclubs it will also be a comic book, the second of the series created by Max Pezzali and written by Roberto Recchioni, to be released in May, which follows the first issue “Max Forever All Stars” which sold out at Lucca Comics 2023.
