It was 1973 when Riccardo Fogli he decided to leave i Pooh, where he had entered just seven years earlier, to begin his solo career. But the reasons for the breakup had nothing to do with music. «It happened that I got engaged to Nicoletta, Patty Pravo“, said the singer, guest of Mara Venier on “Domenica In” with Pooh (that is, Roby Facchinetti, Dodi Battaglia and Red Canzian, who replaced Fogli) to present the summer tour that will see him together with the old group around Italy (but he had already returned with them on the occasion of the fiftieth anniversary tour in 2015). «The story began when I was still married to Viola Valentino – continued Fogli, pressed by the presenter on why he had left – and the first few weeks we did everything in secret. Then the first articles began to appear. Neither Nicoletta nor I spoke to the press obviously, but then the issue became increasingly bigger and more serious. Viola kicked me out of the house. And Patty was too well known a woman, she was becoming too intrusive for the group.”
A reconstruction that however Facchinetti he seemed not to agree completely. «We went on long journeys and we told each other everything, even the intimate details – explained the historic leader of the group -. We realized that he was madly in love, because from one day to the next he stopped telling us anything. We were a band where we did everything together. When true love began, he began to live his story and detached himself from what was our story. We felt left aside.” Fogli’s response was immediate. «It’s not like that, it’s not the truth. But even if it were true, what did it matter to you! «No, Mara, we are on tour and I wouldn’t want this thing to upset the balance again… I wouldn’t want to say anything else. I was in love, if I ran away with my girlfriend it was my business. I left the group because one day my best friends very amicably told me: “Ricky this matter gets complicated, we talk about you and Nicoletta and this thing gets mixed up with work. What do you decide? Words which, however, further unnerved Facchinetti. «You have to tell it well. The straw that broke the camel’s back was the concert at the Sistina”, said the historic Pooh keyboardist. But before he or Fogli could reveal what really happened that evening in the theater, the Venier he aired a film and the matter ended there, but the feeling is that the wound of 1973 has not yet healed (and probably never will).
The relationship between Fogli and Patty Pravo ended quickly and he returned to Viola Valentinowith whom he remained until 1992, when he had his first son – Alessandro – with the actress Stefania Brassi, while in 2010 he married the model and dancer Karin Trentini, with whom he had his daughter Michelle.
