WEEKEND REBELS PLOT
The Weekend Rebelsthe film directed by Marc Rothemund, inspired by a true storystarring the little one Jason (Cecilio Andresen), a 10-year-old autistic boy. Like many children with his condition, Jason needs a daily life made up of routines and fixed rules, which cannot be changed.
His father Mirco (Florian David Fitz), despite his work commitments often keeping him and his mother away from home Fatima (Aylin Tezel), do their best to maintain the family balance, but Jason’s situation represents a daily challenge for them. When the parents are advised to enroll Jason in a special institute, which will make his school career easier, father and son make a pact: if Mirco helps Jason choose his favorite soccer team, the boy promises to change schools and try to get along with his teachers and classmates. What Mirco doesn’t know yet is that Jason has established very specific criteria for making his choice: the ideal club must not have a mascot that is too ridiculous, must be eco-sustainable, have disabled-accessible toilets, must not have neo-Nazis among the fans and the players must not wear shoes that are too colorful. But above all, before making up his mind, the boy wants to see all 56 teams from the first, second and third divisions of the German championship play live.
Thus begins an adventure that takes them from one stage to another, a journey during which Mirco learns to know his son better and to manage his disability. These weekends become an escape from everyday life, transforming them into Weekend Rebels and leading them to discover the importance of true love.
CURIOSITIES ABOUT THE REBELS OF THE WEEKEND
The film, taken from a true story, is based on the autobiographical novel “Wir Wochenendrebellen” (We, Weekend Rebels), written in 2019 by Mirco e and Jason von Juterczenka. (both appear in a cameo in the film, as a father and son sitting at the stadium behind the two protagonists. You can see my very own Mirko and Jason in the images at the top of this film card.).
