When, in 2018, the actor and director John Krasinski inaugurated the saga of A Quiet Place, Very little was revealed about the horde of horrifying monsters that hunted humans. All we knew was that they had spread everywhere, exterminating anyone who made any noise. The family of the protagonist, Lee Abbott, played by Krasinski himself (in the role of his wife, Emily Blunt, his partner) was the protagonist of A Quiet Place – A quiet place and his sequels of 2021. The third chapter will arrive in 2025 but in the meantime, from June 27, the prequel entitled A Quiet Place: Day 1 tells the origins and methods of the invasion by the ruthless creatures with very fine hearing that almost led humanity to extinction. We take this opportunity to summarize the golden rules to escape the clutches of monsters.
1 – DO NOT make noise
They won’t have sharp eyesight, but the creatures have superior hearing which makes them skilled at perceiving even the most imperceptible sound. The Abbott family, accustomed to communicating using sign language, has an advantage over the other survivors, but this does not stop the monsters from being able to track them down. A breath, a falling object, a sudden movement is enough to trigger them, so even the most common tasks such as setting the table or handling a toy turn into unnerving experiences. Sooner or later you let your guard down or you panic, and the aliens arrive.
2 – Equip yourself with a security system
Avoiding being caught unprepared and having the horrifying and feral aliens fall upon you is the second best way to avoid losing your life. In the sequel A Quiet Place II the character of the Abbotts’ neighbor, Emmett (Oppenheimer’s Cillian Murphy) is a shy man who has surrounded his home with a home alarm system able to warn him when someone or something is approaching. Using various trinkets scattered around the perimeter, Emmett notices that the Abbotts have approached. Unfortunately, they are not the only ones.
3 – Mute sounds
While some sounds are easier to suppress or can be avoided, others are generated unpredictably, for example when you step on a creaking beam while walking. This is why the Abbotts have learned to mask the sound of footsteps when they move in woods covered with leaves and branches or when they step on gravel and other noisy surfaces. To do this, they use marked trails and other ways to muffle sounds, such as taking off their shoes.
