The highest-grossing comic book of the year is Superman. None of the three Marvel films released in 2025 managed to do better.
Despite the debate over the worldwide gross of Superman which has taken place in recent months, dividing those who consider it a success from those who think it hasn’t done enough at home DC Comics/Warner Bros there’s at least one more than legit bottle of bubbly to uncork.
The arrival of James Gunn as co-president, co-administrator and chief creative officer of DC Studios, along with Peter Safranmade a clean sweep of the complicated cinematic universe DC who lacked the overall vision that instead Marvel he had. Superman was the first title of the new series of stories that will become films for theaters and TV series for streaming (the second season of Peacemaker is already available), provided it is not too late for the following reasons:
1) the so-called “fatigue” for the cinecomic genre which, in the end, proposes variants of the same formula,
2) the risk of financial sustainability in a world where spectators go to the cinema less frequently,
3) the acquisition of Warner Bros by Netflix consolidate and move towards a new scenario without James Gunn.
