There’s no point in hiding behind a finger: Deadpool & Wolverine it will be a crucial film for a Marvel Cinematic Universe that has never gone through such a profound period of crisis. The Studios are banking heavily on the return of the two Mutants and, all things considered, Shawn Levy’s film could really be a film capable of accomplishing the feat.
First of all, the film for which Marvel has set limits despite the R-rated mark will see the entry of the team-up that everyone dreamed of: the bromance between Deadpool and Wolverine should be worth the price of admission in itself, and this should at least push even the most disappointed fans to rush to the theater.
Furthermore, by exploiting weapons such as the irreverent irony of Ryan Reynolds’ character and his ability to break the fourth wall, Marvel could actually repair the damage done with a Multiverse concept that has so far appeared too botched and not very cohesive, starting (almost) from scratch with the aim of building something more solid and capable of fascinating old and new fans.
In continuity with what has just been said, Deadpool & Wolverine also has the opportunity to finally lay the foundations for an Avengers 5 that it turns out to be as epic as expected: the hype for the new MCU cross-over is incredibly low for a project of this kind, probably also and above all due to Phase 4 and Phase 5 which so far have not been able to do what they wanted However, the first three Phases had done very well in guiding us towards the Infinity War/Endgame duo. If there is a right time to change course, in short, this is it: according to estimates, on the other hand, Deadpool & Wolverine could set a new record for R-rated films.
