The acclaimed protagonist of Anatomy of a Fall returns to the cinema on July 4th with a film that tells the story of the relationship between a countess and the famous Empress of Austria. Here is the trailer, plot and poster for Sissi and Me.
Protagonist of a famous trilogy of films from the fifties starring the splendid Romy Scheider (who played her again in Ludwig by Visconti), and more recently told on TV by Cristiana Capotondi and to the cinema from Vicky Krieps, Elizabeth of Bavariafor everyone Sissi, is a historical figure who never stops providing insights into popular culture. From the 4th Julyfor example, we will see a new film entitled in Italian cinemas Me and Sissiwhich tells of one of the many periods of stay of the Empress of Austria away from Vienna, in this case in Greece, and in particular of her relationship with a countess who was her faithful lady-in-waiting.
Presented in its world premiere at Berlinale of 2023, Me and Sissi it was directed by the German director Frauke Finsterwalderalso a screenwriter together with Christian Kracht, and this is hers official plot:
Sissi has crossed the threshold of middle age. Countess Irma joins her in Greece, in an aristocratic commune made up of only women, a universe light years away from the cold etiquette of the Austro-Hungarian court.
Sissi lives in absolute freedom, far from her children and her husband, Kaiser Franz Joseph. The only thing that matters to her is that no one should ever be bored and that she is the empress herself who decides the rules of the game. Irma is bewitched by the charismatic Sissi and her modern and unconventional mentality, but the outside world threatens to shatter her newfound freedom.
In the role of Sissi there is in this film Susanne Wolffwhile the acclaimed protagonist of Anatomy of a fall, Sandra Hüller, plays Countess Irma von Sztáray. TO Georg Friedrich the part of Archduke Ludwig Viktor.
