Pixar films soon live action? Pete Docter is not a fan

Disney Pixar focuses heavily on Inside Out 2one of the most anticipated sequels that will bring the Riley’s emotions with an extra push. The group expands with the arrival of pre-adolescence which also brings into play other crucial emotions including Anxiety, who will eventually take over at headquarters. One of the most popular questions regarding Pixar’s animated successes concerns the potential adaptation in live action sauce: is it possible? According to Pete Docter, creative director of the Studios, that step is not contemplated at the moment. In an interview with Time, the creative director was told of an idea fans would like Ratatouille in live action, but Docter never considered the idea:

No, and maybe I might regret these words, but they kind of bother me. I like making films that are original and unique. Doing it again isn’t that interesting to me. Plus it would be difficult in this case. Much of what we create only works because of the rules of the animated world. For example, if you see a human being entering a houseboat your first thought is, ‘Wait a minute, houses are super heavy, how do balloons lift one?’ This doesn’t happen when you have a cartoon character, you don’t need explanations. The worlds we’ve built simply don’t scale very easily.

Docter chose this as an example in this case Up and his iconic flying house supported by colorful balloons. Regarding Inside Out 2, coming to theaters from 19 June 2024the creative director was quite objective about the expected results: “If Inside Out 2 doesn’t do well in theaters, I think it just means we’re going to have to think even more radically about how we run our business.”.
