While waiting for the first trailer of The Lord of the Rings: War of the Rohirrim, which will presumably be revealed by the Annecy Film Festival, the screenwriter and producer of the saga Philippa Boyens has revealed new details about the long-awaited animated film.
Speaking to Deadline about the film, which will be taken from ‘a page and a half of Tolkien’s book’the author, co-writer and co-producer of the trilogies of The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit by Peter Jackson and has returned to work with the New Zealand author for the next appointments with the franchise of The Lord of the Rings, declared :
“The Rohirrim War takes place 200 years before the events of the Ring, and one of the most exciting things is that for the first time we’re dealing with a stand-alone story. It was also one of the reasons why we chose this story when we were trying to do something dedicated to the world of animation, because for this new approach to Middle-earth we wanted something that had nothing to do with the Rings of Power or Sauron or sorcerers. The Rohirrim War is the story of a people which is falling apartand it seemed like the ideal subject to represent through animation because we will tell a fundamental story of Middle-earth without however touching live action films.“
The Lord of the Rings: War of the Rohirrim hits theaters on December 13thobviously distributed by Warner Bros, while The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum will follow in 2026.
