Directed by Luigi Pingitorethe film was shot in the studio of Iago to Naples – now a museum – during the artist’s work sessions for the creation of his work The pity.
For a good two years the cameras followed Jago closely as he grappled with the marble, in the complex undertaking of shaping the material, transforming it from a cold and rough surface into a vital and expressive work.
“From the first takes I was struck by the almost competitive relationship that Jago has with marble. His work is animal, physical, not just spiritual work. A job in which technical mastery and sweat are on the same level. It’s as if that church in the heart of Naples, at a certain point, had become a ring. And marble is his opponent” said the director.

“Today I am animated by a sense of gratitude” said Jago talking about the film,“because it is rare in life to have the opportunity to see and know yourself through someone else’s eyes“.
He, capable of dedicating himself to the most demanding art form, such as sculpture, has always lent himself to the dynamics of the art system, accustomed to being in the spotlight and challenging his detractors.
Jago Into The White therefore comes as a further demonstration of the talent of an artist with objective technical skills and – to borrow Pingitore’s words – “Aware that everything in our existence passes through energy. That life and art don’t have to travel separately. And that art is not only a testimony of what we are, but is above all an exercise in imagination on what we can become”.
