“The best horror of 2024”

Critics are already calling it one of the best horror films of this year with a great performance from the actor

The first reviews of the horror thriller with Nicolas Cage Longlegs that have appeared online are extremely positive and many already agree that it is the best horror film of the year.

Thanks to Neon’s innovative marketing campaign, the film attracted a lot of attention in its pre-deployment phase. The indie studio began releasing cryptic and chilling teasers for the film back in January, but initially kept secret what kind of film it was due to placing the film’s name in a code made up of occult symbols. The film will be released in American theaters on July 12.

“A contemporary Silence of the Lambs”

The first reactions have arrived on Twitter, many of which are extremely enthusiastic about what they describe as a genuinely terrifying film. Mary Beth McAndrew of Dread Central defined the film as a “contemporary Silence of the Lambs” and confirmed that it is a “true masterpiece” in the field of horror.

Bill Bria of SlashFilm suggested that the film could be the “best horror film of ’24“, praising the performances of Cage and Maika Monroe. Matt Donato of Bloody Disgusting described Longlegs as “violently evil” and “the kind of horror movie you can’t easily get rid of.”

Collider’s Perri Nemiroff confirmed that the teasers are selling the film well and revealed that she’s never seen anything like Longlegs.

A great year for horror

Calling Longlegs the best horror film of the year is a bold statement, as 2024 has been and will continue to be a big year for horror. So far, Immaculate and Omen have garnered high praise for addressing women’s rights in chilling horror stories with a religious aftertaste.

Abigail earned high scores on Rotten Tomatoes from both critics and audiences for its fun and unique take on the typical vampire horror story. Also Late Night with the Devil was called one of the best horror films of the year, while another horror film starring Nicolas Cage, Arcadianreceived excellent feedback.

What is Longlegs about?

If the trailer is any indication, the film will rely on atmosphere rather than ineffective jump scares to instill terror. The selected clips released so far to promote the film feature both graphic violence and a spiritual element that could signify the involvement of the supernatural – a combination that has proven effective for some of the most celebrated horror films of all time.

Longlegs: Nicolas Cage and Maika Monroe star in Oz Perkins’ horror film

To make things even more terrifying, the photography of Longlegs and the use of satanic imagery give the film a palpable atmosphere of evil, all without any clear explanation of what is happening. This powerful mix creates the perfect environment for a truly scary movie.
