Metamorphosis by Michele Fasano arrives in theaters on May 16th with Sattva Films, an animated film inspired by The Conference of the Birds by Peter Sís and an animated tale about the religion of Love. We show you an exclusive preview clip of the film.
A flock of birds crosses the sky, flying over a patched boat full of migrants. The smaller bird marvels at the terrible conditions of the travelers and learns that those people have crossed the desert and are looking for a Promised Land.
Thus begins a clip of Metamorphosis which today we are showing you in an exclusive preview and which takes us back to the injustices of our world and the oppression of the strongest over the weakest or simply less fortunate.
Metamorphosisin cinemas from May 16, is an animated film and the debut work of the independent director and producer Michele Fasano, who chose the fairy tale for the metaphorical value that has always characterized this narrative genre. The basis of his film is a 12th century Persian poem much loved by children and also by the director Peter Brook, who made it one of his best shows. Metamorphosis: The Plot and Religion of Love
Metamorphosis therefore tells the adventure of a flock of birds that travels in the wake of Hoopoe towards the Mountain of Kafhhome of King Simourgh, where they can receive all the answers to their questions. Between reality and dream, the birds cross the 7 valleys and many of them get lost along the way. Only 4 remain, who will live the experience of as many real human characters:

- Susan (Israel)
These are very different individuals: in age, gender, culture and religion, as well as the territory from which they come and their historical experience. The animation is intertwined with archive materials such as photographs and films that show cruel pages of history: genocides from which no religion has escaped, alternating the role of victim and executioner.
To give to Metamorphosis the character of a moral count he teaches The religion of Love it is the use of myth. In this regard the director Michele Fasano he has declared:
We need to reclaim the space of the foundation, which has been abandoned for too long at the mercy of fanaticism. The myth has always conveyed a profound and universal creative nucleus, common to all cultures… we need to go back to translating it… Love is this foundation and we access it the more we work to put aside identity anxieties.
Metamorphosis: animation and visual effects
Metamorphosisas already mentioned, uses mixed techniques. The cut-out animation it is used to tell the story of the birds’ journey. This is the part inspired by “The Conference of Birds”to which are added a short prologue and an equally short epilogue.
Rotoscopic animation instead it describes the experience of the four real human beings and establishes itself as a middle ground between the lively and colorful universe of birds and the black and white of the violence of history with a capital “S”.
Photographic materials, finally, they refer to genocidal episodes including the events in Bosnia, Kosovo and Thessaloniki. There is no shortage of the Shoah, the Istanbul Pogrom, the Syrian and Palestinian questions, and the Armenian genocide.
