“It’s sad that Spider-Man no longer has any friends”

Jacob Batalon played one of Peter Parker’s closest friends in the new Spider-Man trilogy and comments on Ned’s future: will we see him again in the MCU?

Jacob Batalon interprets Ned Leeds in the trilogy of Spider-Man with Tom Holland. Dear friend of Peter Parker, he has experienced first-hand what it means to fight against threats with powers that go beyond imagination. The latest adventure dates back to Spider-Man: No Way Home, the third chapter of the trilogy in collaboration between Sony and Marvel which marked a clean break for Peter Parker. To ensure there were no repercussions, Peter made sure everyone forgot Spider-Man’s true identity, including his friends. Interviewed by ComicBookJason Batalon clarified that to date he does not know the fate of Ned or Spider-Man’s friends, but at the same time he admitted that a future without friends is quite sad for Peter Parker.

Spider-Man, Jason Batalon doesn’t want a future without friends for Peter Parker

In recent months there has been much talk about the return of Tom Holland’s Spider-Man on the big screen. The leading actor also stated that there is an intention to reappear on the screen, but it will be necessary to find the right story so that it is correct to do so. In Spider-Man: No Way Home, Peter Parker asked Doctor Strange to intervene with a spell and make the world forget Peter Parker’s true identity. A little game that cost a lot, considering that he had to deal with threats from other universes and that they have already had the opportunity to deal with other Peter Parkers, those played by Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield. Both actors were involved in the film, alongside Tom Holland in a final battle in New York, at the end of which Peter again asked Doctor Strange to help him. Once the spell is cast, the Multiverse was restored but at the same time everyone lost their memories, eliminating Peter Parker from their lives. And that includes his closest friends, Ned and MJ Of Zendaya. While Tom Holland’s future seems to be rather certain in the current MCU, the same does not apply to his friends now that they have lost their memories. Interviewed by ComicBookJacob Batalon admitted that he doesn’t know Ned’s future:

I honestly don’t know. I don’t know what the future holds for any of them in that world. I feel like things happen for a reason. I hope so, absolutely. It’s sad that I don’t have any friends anymore.

To date Ned has appeared in the Spider-Man trilogy, but he also made a cameo appearance in Avengers: Infinity War And Avengers: Endgame, confirming himself as a character fond of Spider-Man. When asked if there were any plans to bring Ned back into the MCU, the actor responded: “Who knows? Maybe, if everything goes as it should”.
